Corn Growing Tips and Advice

| Many varieties of corn exist, and so you will may to follow guidelines for your specific type of corn. One advantage to growing corn is that you can plant your seeds successively, though you should avoid planting different types of corn together or the plants will cross-pollinate.
Planting CornMake sure that seeds are planted 10-15 inches apart. Fertilize around the seeds when you plant them. Before your corn reaches 10 inches, fertilize again and repeat accordingly. Corn is ready to harvest 3 weeks after the first silk appears. Break the ear from the stalk close to the base so as not to damage the ear or the stalk.
